After the tide had turned against the Axis and civil war broke out in Italy following the Armistice of Cassibile in 1943, brave civilians began their insurrection and arose against the tyranny of the former fascist government forces and German invaders. In much chaos and confusion, often battling on several fronts, the Italian civilian resistance groups bravely took the fight to their enemies, ambushing and harassing them, whilst using their local knowledge to full advantage to evade and escape after making their attacks, supported by the local populace.
