Card GameTrick-takingSolo / Solitaire Game

Overview

マストフォローソリティア (Follow-the-Suit Solitaire) was designed for the 2019 exhibition これはトリテなのか (Is this a trick-taking game?), for games that pushed the boundary of what could be considered both a game and a trick-taking game.

It is a solitaire game where the player wins if they can run out of cards in their hand; if they do, the player also earns a score equal to the number of cards left in a deck.

The game uses a standard 52-card deck, plus 1 joker. Ten cards are randomly discarded, then the player draws 10 cards from a shuffled deck. The player may then discard any number of cards, drawing 2 cards to replace each card discarded. The player can choose any or no suit as trump.

To play a trick, the top card from the deck is flipped up and the player then chooses a card from their hand to play. The player must follow suit (or play the joker). The highest card played of the trump suit wins; otherwise the highest card played of the led suit. (The joker is the highest overall card.) If the player wins, the two cards from the trick are discarded; otherwise, the player takes the cards into their hand. Regardless of who wins the trick, the deck leads the next trick.
