Overview

SERIES 3: We all know the fairy tale – Red goes into the forest to bring her ailing grandmother some treats. She’s warned by her family not to stray from the path. But she sees some beautiful flowers to pick for her grandmother and cannot help herself. The Big Bad Wolf finds her there, and plans ahead. He asks her where she’s going and runs ahead to gobble up Grandmother, and then Red herself, until they’re saved by the Woodsman. In our version, it’s Red who does the deed, but what if she never makes it? What if she strays off the path too far and never makes her way to Grandmother? She may be old, she may be frail, and she may be ailing, but she is a hunter of old, and she’s forgotten more about tracking and slaying than you’ll ever know. Like a general, she’ll rally the troops to do her bidding, so that she can rescue as many people as she can along the way. If she happens to get a little pushy about sending them into battle, well, her grandbaby was taken from her too soon, and that does something to a person. Something almost as dark as the killer.

Like our other stretch goals, the rules of this are subject to change as we keep developing it. What I started with was the premise that Grandma is ailing, so we removed sprint cards, and healing cards like Short and Long Rest. Instead she will have additional slow movement cards, and cards that will Rally the community to fight for her. When they panic, they run for Grandma, to lead them and offer advice.

Let’s not forget her carpet bag that can carry anything from a wad of tissue to hard candies that have probably been sitting at the bottom for a decade. She’s no fool, being a slow mover. She knows a slipper is a formidable weapon when in the right hands, but that’s letting the killer come a little too close. She needs to set traps that can either do damage or stop the killer and immediately end their turn when they enter the space. Those items (Knitting Needles, Knick-Knacks, and the Good Plates) are precious to her, and the killer will pay for making her lose those gifts from her family. But sometimes you have to make sacrifices, which Grandma knows all too well.
