Overview

Secession 1861 is a solitaire effort to parry Abraham Lincoln and the powerful Union military and political efforts to subdue and defeat the Confederacy. You command the military, political and industrial forces of the South as you try to become the Confederate States of America, from Secession in 1861 to Appomattox Court House (or a different outcome?).

You have a variety of tools at your disposal, including ironclads to challenge Union supremacy at sea, a qualitatively superior army (at least initially), and opportunities to flex some political and industrial potential. And Secession 1861's unique tactical battle system gives you an opportunity to re-fight the Civil War's decisive battles.

The main action plays out on the 28" x 22" game board, where Union armies advance into the south, and various tracks tally Northern home front morale, abolition sentiment, the naval blockade, southern industrialization, ironclads and more. Battles are fought out on a separate 8.5" x 11" "Battle Board".
