Tank Chess: Airborne (2024)

Overview

Some newly added Tank Chess pieces feature a new mechanic, which makes them stand out from the pieces in the Fun Set Plus expansion. That is why there is a special Airborne (mini) Expansion. It contains a total of 12 pieces (6 in each color): 2x Airborne Light tank; 2x Armed Off-road vehicle (airborne), and 2x Anti-Aircraft tank.

Airborne pieces can, under certain conditions, land on almost any square. The main landing condition is that there are no Anti-Aircraft tank pieces nearby, as they deter planes carrying airborne pieces. This way, the game gets a completely new dimension, and, literally, it is the third dimension, because the players have to keep in mind that the opponent can at any moment drop a piece from the skies and change the outcome of the game. That is why the Anti-Aircraft tank pieces are of particular importance, especially when in vicinity of the Command Tank, defending it. The brochure for this expansion will feature many obstacle setups (for all board sizes) in which the Airborne pieces play the central role.
